Running from the 25th to 30th May, the Glasgow Style Mile Shopping Festival will shine a spotlight on the city centre, which has earned a reputation as the best shopping destination in the UK outside of London.
Over the five day event Glasgow will come alive with a full line-up of activity from styling sessions and trend tips to make-up masterclasses and new product demonstrations. Shoppers will also be in for a treat with many retailers and restaurants offering special discounts and promotions throughout the festival.
As part of the celebrations, an eye-catching Festival Hub will be constructed at the bottom of Buchanan Street offering an informative and experiential environment. As well as being a place where people can pop in and find out what’s on, the Hub will feature a packed programme with takeovers from some of the city’s top retailers.
The Festival Hub will be split into three distinct areas and will focus on fashion, beauty and lifestyle/home with professional stylists, make-up artists and interior designers on hand to offer one-to-one advice. Busy shoppers will be able to take a break and enjoy a spot of pampering, from blow dries at the pop-up hair salon to manicures at the Hub’s very own nail bar. There will also be a selection of the city’s best restauranteurs showcasing tasty treats.
Glasgow city centre offers a unique and diverse shopping experience with over 1,500 stores including the Style Mile – the one mile square in the very centre of Glasgow. The Style Mile features an unrivalled collection of high-street, designer and boutique brands including Buchanan Galleries, St. Enoch Centre, House of Fraser, Princes Square, Argyll Arcade, John Lewis and Debenhams, all of which have a jam packed calendar of activity throughout the festival.
Joe Aitken, head of major events at Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “Glasgow is officially recognised as the UK’s largest and most successful shopping destination outside of London’s West End. Our Style Mile is home to an extraordinary concentration of some of the world’s biggest and most iconic brands as well as every major high street retailer, which sit seamlessly alongside a diverse variety of independent, boutique and exclusive designer stores. Launching the city’s inaugural shopping festival further reinforces Glasgow’s position not only as Scotland’s retail, cultural and style capital, but as a word-class events destination with a vibrant and diverse events portfolio.”
Commenting on the festival, Anne Ledgerwood, chair of the City Centre Retail Association, said: “Glasgow is well known for its shopping and what better way to celebrate this than with the first ever dedicated festival. The city and its retailers have put on a fantastic programme of events and we’re excited to share it with the people of Glasgow. From fashion and beauty advice to interior one-to-ones as well as character visits, there is something for all the family.
“As well as its shopping, Glasgow is well known for its eclectic dining scene and shoppers are encouraged to make a day of it and stop for a well-earned break at one of the many restaurants that will be running special menus and promotions throughout the festival.”
Glasgow Style Mile Shopping Festival is the result of a collaboration between Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) and City Centre Retail Association (CCRA).
