New Lanark will be offering a free ice cream cone to the first 200 visitors who purchase tickets for the award-winning Visitor Centre and quote 'Robert Owen' at reception each week over the summer holiday period.
This summer's special offer is part of New Lanark's annual celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Institute for the Formation of Character.
The building was opened by pioneering mill manager Robert Owen on 1 January 1816 and was the educational and cultural heart of the village. Many of the Millworkers who lived at New Lanark & within the surrounding area enjoyed leisure activities within the building such as dancing, lessons, games and musical concerts.
Today the Institute for the Formation of Character is the hub of public activity in the village. The building houses the reception and entrance for New Lanark’s award-winning Visitor Centre. Throughout the year the building also hosts a series of events, exhibitions, weddings and functions.
New Lanark Ice Cream has won a host of awards recently including Overall Champion Ice Cream at the Royal Highland Show 2015 and a Bronze Medal at the Ice Cream Alliance Awards 2016. New Lanark Ice Cream is currently distributed to hotels & restaurants in Glasgow and throughout the central belt. It is also enjoyed by thousands of visitors annually who visit New Lanark, with the ice cream being sold in the Mill Café, Village Store, Wee Row Hostel and served in the New Lanark Mill Hotel.
To claim their 'free cone' offer, visitors should quote 'Robert Owen' when purchasing their tickets for the New Lanark Visitor Centre Reception.
