New season programme for Kings and Theatre Royal!

The King's and Theatre Royal Glasgow have another jam-packed season in store this Autumn, over Christmas and into 2017!

The King’s and Theatre Royal jam-packed autumn season is already well underway with classics such as Cats and The Mousetrap going down a treat earlier this with much more to come in the run up to the festive season and we’ve even got a glimpse as to what the new year will bring...

King’s Theatre


She wowed us while stepping into Whitney Houston’s shoes in The Bodyguard last year and now Alexandra Burke is back as Deloris Van Cartier in the stage adaptation of the smash hit film, Sister Act. The production has already been praised by critics and is by far one of the funniest and funkiest musicals you’ll see this year. (Mon 3 Oct-Sat 8 Oct)

This fantastic telling of how the Kinks rose to fame will really get you going as Sunny Afternoon takes you back to the 60s. Sound-tracked by all the iconic tunes including Waterloo Sunset, Lola, Dedicated Follower of Fashion and All Day and All of the Night this story will be sure to make your spirits soar. (Tues 11 Oct-Sat 15 Oct)

We’ll be spending time with our fine four-fendered friend next month as the pretty Chitty Chitty Bang Bang flies into the King’s. Starring Jason Manford, Claire Sweeney and Phil Jupitis this is still one of the world’s best-loved musicals reaching soaring heights of madness, intrigue and exuberance. (Wed 19 Oct-Sat 29 Oct)

Jason Donavan returns to the King’s especially for you in the ultimate rock and story, Million Dollar Quartet. Inspired by the famous one time only recording session that brought together the legendary Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins this musical captivates its audience in the telling of this one unforgettable night. (Mon 14 Nov –Sat 19 Nov)

Everyone’s favourite childhood book is coming to life with the aid of 75 lovable puppets. The Very Hungry Caterpillar stage show has been created by Jonathan Rockfeller who has already made a name for himself with the faithful adaptation of Eric Carle’s stories including Mister Seahorse and The Very Lonely Firefly. (Sun 20 Nov & Mon 21 Nov)

We’ll all be going to the ball this year as Cinderella, the godmother of all pantos, returns to the King’s. Starring Scottish comedy legends Gregor Fisher and Tony Roper as those awfy mean and ugly sisters, the fabulous Des Clarke and a few other well-kent faces, it’s going to be a marvellous night out for the whole family this festive season. (Fri 2 Dec-Sun 8 Jan)

We’re throwing in a twist among the happy-go-lucky musicals in the New Year as The Woman in Black makes it way from the page to the stage in Stephen Mallatratt’s ingenious adaptation of the Susan Hill novel. A lawyer obsessed with a curse he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a woman in black engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story. It all start innocently enough but you’ll have shivers running up your spine before you know it. (Tues 17 Jan-Sat 21 Jan)

Combining contemporary cirque-style artistry with adrenaline-fuelled stunt action, Cirque Beserk is great fun for kids and adults alike. The astoundingly talented international troupe includes more than 30 jugglers, acrobats, aerialists, dancers, drummers, daredevil stunt men and of course the awards winning clown, Tweedy. (Tues 24 Jan –Sat 29 Jan)

From explosive tap numbers to a Fred and Ginger dance routine on a window ledge, Strictly’s Joanna Clifton will be dusting off her dancing shoes as she stars in the title role of Thoroughly Modern Millie. Set in the jazz age of NYC, this feel good factor show is bursting with raised hemlines, bobbed hair and love. (Mon 6 Feb- Sat 11 Feb)

Peppa Pig was a popular hit this summer and now the producers are putting their talents to adapting Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom for the stage. The beautiful story of elves, princesses and childhood innocence is perfect for all the family. (Fri 17 Feb & Sat 18 Feb)

Sound-tracked by all the hen night must-have tunes, The Full Monty is back and bigger than ever. Starring soap favourites Gary Lucy, Chris Fountain, Kai Owen, Anthony Lewis, Andrew Dunn and Louis Emerick and not Andrew Lewis the stage adaptation of the smash film is no stranger to standing ovations and continues to thrill its audiences up and down the country. (27 Feb - 4 March)

We all know the classic tale made famous by the late great Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore and many have hungered for its touch ever since. This March, the Oscar-winning love story that is Ghost will return to the King’s as part of a new stage production currently touring the UK. Watch this space for a star casting announcement. (Mon 27 Mar-Sat 1 Apr)

Buddy Holly fans, brace yourself. The Buddy Holly Story is back to treat you to a terrific two hours of the greatest songs including Raining in My Heart, Everyday and Shout while the talented cast tell the story of Buddy Holly’s legendary musical career from his rise to fame through to his final performance are the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. (Tues 4 Apr-Sat 8 Apr)

We’re going party like it’s 1985 as The Wedding Singer hits all the right notes at the King’s in April. Starring Rab C Nesbitt actress Barbara Rafferty as Grandma Rosie you’ll be taken back to the 80s when wedding singer Robbie Hart is jilted at his own big day, leaving him too heartbroken to perform at any more weddings. Can he back into the groove and follow his dreams? There’s only one way to find out. (Tues 18 Apr-Sat 22 April)

The classic film shot Barbra Streisand to fame and features some of the most iconic song sin theatre history. Now, the stage adaptation of Funny Girl is touring the UK, hot on the heels of a record breaking run in the West End. (Tues 30 May-Sat 3 Jun)

Step back to 60s with Dreamboats and Petticoats as the hit musical returns to Glasgow once again for a week of heart-warming nostalgia with all the best numbers from what really was a golden era for Rock and Roll. (Mon 12 Jun- Sat 17 Jun)

Never has a play made its audience as curious as The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. The Winner of 7 Olivier Awards and 5 Tony awards perpetually leaves its audience on the edge of their seat as playwright Simon Stephens beautifully showcases the theme of Mark Haddons’s best-selling novel of the same name. (Tues 15 Aug-Sat 19 Aug)

We’ll have our dancing shoes on as Strictly Come Dancing 2012 winner and Olympian Louis Smith, alongside professional dancer Robin Windsor, urge audiences to Keep Dancing in a brand new show celebrating the world of Ballroom and Latin dance. (Tue 25-Sat 29 Oct)

The Glebe Street gang are back! Scotland’s most famous fictional family The Broons are coming to the stage for the very first time to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the classic comic strip. (Mon 7-Sat 12 Nov)

The charming, kooky and hilarious 1950s musical sci-fi spoof Little Shop of Horrors returns to Glasgow starring X Factor’s Rhydian. Will he be able to control Audrey Two, the carnivorous plant with a jealous streak? (Mon 14-Sat 19 Nov)

The thrilling stage production of The Shawshank Redemption based on Stephen King’s short novel and one of the best movies of all time, nominated for seven Academy Awards, comes to the Theatre Royal. The play examines desperation, injustice, friendship and hope behind the claustrophobic bars of a maximum security facility. (Mon 21-Sat 26 Nov)

Celebrate Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary with The Shakespeare Revue – an enchanting collection of witty music and skits. You definitely don’t need to be a Shakespeare scholar to enjoy this concoction of hilarious sketches and show-stopping numbers. (Tues 29 Nov-Sat 3 Dec)

Theatre Royal’s big Christmas show arrives direct from London’s West End The Commitments follows Jimmy Rabbitte, a young working class music fan, as he shapes an unlikely bunch of amateur musicians and friends into an amazing live act, the finest soul band Dublin has ever produced. The Commitments is a feel good celebration of soul with over 20 classics such as River Deep, Mountain High, Mustang Sally, I Heard It Through The Grapevine and Knock On Wood. (Mon 12- Fri 30 Dec)

The call for dancers and choreographers for the 10th anniversary of Go Dance is open. The festival opens a unique performance opportunities to schools, colleges, dance schools and community groups. With an inspiring new programme, this vibrant showcase bring together dancers of all ages and style to share and celibate their work. (Tues 31 Jan-Sat 4 Feb)

Faulty Towers meets Noises Off in the multi-award winning comedy The Play That Goes Wrong. The fall-of-your-seat-with-laughter show’s plot follows the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society as they prepare to put on a 1920s murder mystery, but as the title suggests, everything goes wrong! (Mon 6-Sat 11 March)

TV presenter Laura Whitmore arrives in Glasgow in April To star as Cleo in the stage adaptation of Peter James’ Not Dead Enough. Based on the third novel in the author’s award-winning Roy Grace series and the third play in his box-office smash hit franchise, this one murder mystery no to be missed. (Mon 3-Sat 8 April)

Arthur Miller’s The Crucible returns to Glasgow this spring with tales of witchcraft and accusations which fly thick and fast. Don’t miss this exquisite tale of based on 17th century Salem live on stage. (Mon 12-Sat 17 Jun)
