Back for its sixth successful year, Southside Fringe Festival is happening between the 11th and 27th of May 2018! Thanks to the good hearts of the Southside creative community, the venues and a heap of hard work from their team of volunteers the Southside Fringe has been a self-funded arts and music festival and run entirely by the community since 2013. Since then the festival has gone from strength to strength with over 200 events in over 50 Southside Venues in 2017. Earning the team, the title of Best Scottish Festival at the 2017 Scottish Hospitality Awards. Then also in 2016 and 2017, with the support of local MP Stewart McDonald, Southside Fringe was commended in Westminster with an additional third mention in 2017 for the partnership production the festival coordinated with Baldy Bane Theatre Company, St Albert’s Primary School and the Tramway, working with Syrian families and exploring what it means to call home. The team can’t wait to see what Southside treasures 2018 will reveal.
Firstly, these treasures need to find homes for the last fortnight in May. If you’d like to be a Southside Fringe venue you can sign up here. The team at Southside Fringe are busy signing up local venues for the 2018 festival. They tell us the only criteria you need to be in the Fringe Family of venues, is to be based South of the Clyde. We hear they love the quirky and unusual, from exhibitions in auld steamies to fashion shows in swimming pools, from dog shows for dogs to literary readings in campervans. The Southside Fringe team love you all, from bars, restaurants, cafes to shops, swimming pools, pop ups to local parks. Let them know what you have to offer and register to host an event in 2018. There’s a short online form and a small sign-up fee, the form ensures that the festival has all the correct details to promote you in their programme, on their website and via their social media and the sign-up fee helps to pay for the 20,000 printed programmes that go out annually.
Venue registration fees are frozen for the 5th year running and this year they’ve introduced a third registration tier. The Fringe team love that some venues, for example cafes and shops, would like to be a part of the Southside Fringe Festival and be part of the community investment but perhaps don’t have the capacity to host many people or events. To that aim they have introduced more affordable options for registering your venue. Only events held in registered Fringe venues can be included in the 2018 programme listings and 20,000 printed programmes to promote the vibrant Southside community and the creative industries will be spread city-wide and nationally.
With all venues in the bag over December and January, the festival team will be putting out a call for events in the new year, stay tuned!
